Before there was LEED for Homes or MN GreenStar, the pioneering owners of this unique new home in Cannon Falls, Minnesota set out to build a very resource efficient and sustainable home. Designed in 2004 and built the following year, the house mixes a familiar farmhouse-like charm with green technology – such as: insulated concrete exterior walls (ICFs), geothermal heat pump, in-floor radiant heat, rainwater collection and storage in below-garage cistern, solar water heating, south-facing humidity-controlled ‘tropic room’ for winter gardening, HC accessible main level with convalescence bedroom, biomass stove, rain garden landscaping and others.
