Completed Summer 2010, this new contemporary-styled ICF home in
Minnesota was built for $97/finished square foot. The home features
closed cell insulation and geothermal heating and cooling.
The home was designed for openness to views and daylight in its living
spaces on the back side. Service spaces placed on the front side are
made private with small windows or are screened. The front-facing
private spaces include garage, mudroom, and stairway – and do little to
establish a welcoming presence along the street. Yet, with its singular
and large-scaled box window placed above the entrance canopy in an
upper-level bedroom, the house engages the pubic street and its
neighbors with a sentinel-like quality.
